Do Not Listen To People's Personal Fatwas

Assalamu Alaikum wa Warahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,

There are many sisters that I know that have listened to many people's opinions on what is halal and what is haraam.

ALLAHSWT is the only one that can make things halal or haraam.

A sister told me that her brother told her that wearing jeans is haraam. Also, she told me that women aren't supposed to wear jeans because they are clothes of the opposite sex and that it attracts attention.

Subhan'ALLAH, there is nothing in the Qur'an or Sunnah that forbids a woman from wearing jeans. When wearing jeans it is IMPORTANT that the jeans do not show your body and that they are big and baggy IF worn OUTSIDE of the house, insha'ALLAH.

Please, understand that we should not listen to what everyone tells us. This is very important. Many people come and give others fatwas, or religious opinions when we should be going to Qur'an and Authentic Sunnah when getting our information. I really want everyone to understand that our religion is not hard.

Many people do not believe that the beard is fard, but it is. The hadeeth of Ibn 'Umar who said that the Messenger of ALLAH(peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Be different from the mushrikeen: Let your beards grow and trim your moustaches". This is an authentic hadeeth that tells men that their beards are fard, and that by shaving it off is a sin.

Its very important that when we listen to people that we get the daleel, or evident from them. It is also important that what they tell us is accurate and correct.

I understand what your saying but someone who does not qualify to give rulings cant just open the Quran and read the hadiths and decide on what is halal and what is haram. If that were the case everyone would be doing their own thing. As Muslims we need reliance on a Qualified person of knowledge. These rulings come from a Mujtahid who gathers fatwas based on Quran and Hadith and Ishtihaad which is their own strive and endevour to find the correct ruling.

In the Quran: "Let there be a group of you will go and seek knowledge and come back to you."

Going into the Quran yourself are derive laws is a calamity.

Its not the first time I've heard that wearing pants is haram. As we know from Hadith women should not imitate the oppisate sex and vice versa.

    wsalamz.

  2. When someone says that wearing jeans is haram, they are probably over generalizing and not being specific enough. I agree that they should not be worn out of the house uncovered. They don't meet the qualifications for hijab. Even if they are baggy, they do define a shape...

  3. It's funny that it's very clear to you that jeans are OK for a woman and that it doesn't equal imitating the opposite sex, but that the beard is obligatory for men because shaving means imitating the mushrikeen to you. And it's also funny that this is your opinion and that others don't necessarily agree with it. Maybe the post was a trap all along to see if we'd listen to the message of not taking others opinions or if we'd take your opinion?

  4. Salam everyone, look at pants and shalwar kameezes, these items of clothing are made for men and women. Its different if I was to go to the men's side of the store and buy some men's clothes, but if there is clothing that is specifically designated for men then we shouldn't wear them.

Sara: Oh, I agree. I believe that scholars are individuals we should look to when needing to learn information. We should look to our imams and sheikhs(old men who are scholarly). I'm talking about personal fatwas from people like from your brother, your mother, your friend, or etc. Some fatwas by scholars have made the haraam halal like eyebrow plucking, not wearing hijab, smoking, eating pork, and etc.

I just had a comment about the statement from Jamilah saying "they do define a shape..."

Sister we are human beings whether we are wearing a jilbab, abayaa, etc. there is going to be a shape to us. Subhanallah we cannot help that ESPECIALLY if we aren't stick figures. All that we can do is dress modestly as Allah swt has asked of us. But I'm sorry I am not about to wear 15 shirts on a hot summer day to try to cover my boobs so they look nonexistent. They exist, Allah put them on us. As long as we aren't flaunting and uncovering inshallah we are pleasing Allah!
